The 6th of April is Fresh Tomato Day.
Perhaps this day in April is meant to celebrate those lucky parts of the world where you can get locally-grown, sun-drenched tomatoes today. Or maybe it celebrates that no matter where you are in the world, you can get fresh tomatoes any time of year now.
If there’s anyone yet who still doesn’t know that a tomato is technically a fruit, not a vegetable, today might be a good day to pass that piece of trivia along to them. You could also have the debate whether it should be pronounced toe-may-toe or a toe-mah-toe.
Some of the ways you might consider celebrating the day include:
- grill some tomatoes outside on the grill;
- broil some for breakfast;
- make a tomato salad;
- have a tomato sandwich;
- make a fresh salsa;
- stuff a tomato with rice and bake it;
- put some tomato slices on top a quiche.
